GRP Resin Types
Mita® offers 4 main resin types to accommodate the requirements of various industrial applications which can be in chemically aggressive, demanding heated environments.
PY2
POLYESTER Type 2
Referencing Convention: Ending with PY2
This type of polyester is for general applications, is resistant to corrosion suitable in industries using heavy chemical and caustic materials, and resistant to UV light by nature.
PY1
POLYESTER Type 1
Referencing Convention: Ending with PY1
This type of polyester has better fire retardance which makes it suitable for railway, trackside and any other application requiring UL94 compliance and 5VA classification.
PY1C
POLYESTER Type 1 Carbon Loaded
Referencing Convention: Ending with PY1C
This type of polyester has anti-static properties as it contains carbon powder. It, therefore, requires grounding. It is for on-shore and off-shore oil and gas applications which are classified as explosive environment.
MX
MODIFIED ACRYLIC
Referencing Convention: Ending with MX
This type of material is in fact not a polyester but acrylic, and is great for any underground and tunnel application thanks to its BS6853 Smoke Emissions standard and BS476-6 Fire Test compliance.
Important Note About Corrosion:
Not all the resins offered by Mita® will respond in the same way to different environments. It is important to be fully aware of the degree and type of exposure to any chemicals when designing the pultrusion.
The chemical and corrosion resistance properties of pultrusions are predominately attributed to the resin matrix used, because it protects the fibres.
The fibres themselves may have different corrosion resistance properties. When considering a particular resin system for an intended environment, the degree of exposure, the concentration of the corrosive element and the temperature of the environment must be known. The degree of corrosion resistance on the surface is achieved by the use of a surface mat or veil.
